CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - The trial for Andrew Shaw, the man accused of organizing the 2018 murder of Chris Bagley, started Thursday afternoon with opening statements. Shaw faces charges including First Degree Murder, which carries a life sentence.

Shaw is accused of hiring two men, Drew Wagner and Johnny Church (formerly Drew Blahnik), to kill Bagley; both have already been found guilty and are serving 47 and 57 year sentences respectively.

Attorneys used their opening statements to paint a picture of what exactly happened the night Chris Bagley was killed.

The defense, Assistant Linn County Attorney Jennifer Erger, explained that Andrew Shaw was a drug dealer who was previously friends with Bagley. After Bagley began stealing from Shaw, Shaw retaliated by asking Wagner and Church to
