DUBUQUE COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG) - The Dubuque County Attorney ruled that an officer-involved shooting near Cascade last month was justified.

On July 1, law enforcement conducted a traffic stop on Highway 151, just north of the Highway 136 interchange.

Officers conducted the stop after tracking a vehicle driven by James Sherrill , who was the target of a federal drug investigation.

During the stop, officers asked Sherrill to get out of his car and surrender his car keys. Sherrill resisted, repeatedly asking why he had been pulled over. He then started his car and turned it back off. Officers tased Sherrill in order to get the keys from him. As police were fighting to obtain the keys, Sherrill pulled out a handgun.
