CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - Two Cedar Rapids pastors said they want to find a way to continue the work of the recently dissolved Citizen Review Board. The group once intended to hold police accountable.
The board came about in 2021 as a direct result of local protests over the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis by police. A state law was passed this year to keep these boards from reviewing officer conduct.
“We look for ways to come together,” said Rev. Ray Coleman of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church.
Rev. Coleman is teaming up with Rev. Jonathon Heifner of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. They’re looking to see what can be done to continue the work of the CRB after the city council voted to dissolve it last week. Heifner said he was proud the community created the board, coming t
