The Georgia deputy who shot and killed Leonard Cure, a Broward County man who was exonerated only a few years earlier after spending 16 years in prison, has been indicted on federal civil rights charges, federal prosecutors announced Thursday.
A federal grand jury returned the 13-count indictment against Camden County Deputy Staff Sgt. Buck Aldridge, 42, of St. Mary’s, Georgia, alleging that he used excessive force during four separate arrests in his time with the department and wrote misleading reports to justify the excessive force, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of Georgia said in a news release. He is charged with deprivation of rights under color of law and falsifying records.
