LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - A man wanted for attempted murder was arrested during a suspected smuggling attempt along the Rio Grande, according to U.S. Border Patrol.

Agents from the Laredo South Station encountered the smuggling attempt recently while patrolling near the river. During the operation, they identified one of the individuals involved as Raul Belasquez Alvarado, a Mexican national.

Record checks revealed that Alvarado had an active warrant for attempted murder. Border Patrol agents took him into custody without incident.

In a statement, the agency praised the efforts of its agents. “Thanks to the hard work of our agents, they were able to catch this intruder before entering our neighborhoods and communities,” officials said.
