ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A reform to New York State's discovery laws took effect Thursday, impacting ongoing legal cases, including a high-profile sexual abuse case in Wayne County.
The changes to the discovery laws require defense teams to report any missing information during the discovery process, while the district attorney's office now has a longer grace period to respond. This reform aims to address unforeseen issues without undoing the original law set in 2020.
Wayne County District Attorney Christine Callanan explained, "The only real change that we have under these statutes is the defense attorney is required to work with us to let us know if anything is missing. And we get a little more grace if there is anything missing."
