BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) - As we approach the bicentennial of the Erie Canal, we have a story about a beautiful replica of a 19th century canal boat.

The Seneca Chief will be making appearances all along the canal to entertain and educate as it travels. Destination New York's Jacquie Walker shows us more.

It's a 16th century classic from the Bard, Romeo and Juliet, performed for a 21st century audience, with the 19-century replica Erie Canal boat Seneca Chief as a backdrop.

This unusual entertainment blend is meant to bring visitors closer to the stuff we used to glean from history books.

The Marquis de Lafayette has a historic Erie Canal connection.

Lafayette says, "I'm very pleased to be here."
