BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) - The Binghamton Umpires Association is calling for urgent action to protect sports officials in New York State following an assault that occurred at the Greenlight Grand Slam Park in the Town of Dickinson last month.

On July 6th Umpire Carlos Chaluisant was walking back to his vehicle after a game when he was confronted by Leonard Wackowski, a Buffalo man who disagreed with calls made during the game.

Things escalated and Wackowski allegedly assaulted the umpire, causing physical injury. President of the Binghamton Umpire Association Ryan Hastings says that this is not an isolated incident, as umpires all across New York State face mistreatment.
