TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WFLA) — For weeks, Governor Ron DeSantis has kept folks in suspense, dangling the possibility of redistricting before Floridians, and now President Donald Trump has put the wheels in motion.

Trump announced Thursday morning on Truth Social that he ordered the Commerce Department to begin working on a new census. This comes as a number of states, on both sides of the aisle, consider redrawing their congressional maps.

"This is something we haven't seen before. It may not be constitutionally preventable in the state of Florida. But it doesn't make it wise politics," said Political analyst, Tara Newsom.
