LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - The city of Lansing is proposing a new plan to address its ongoing struggle with homelessness.
Controversy has been stirring over the city’s plans to try and move a homeless encampment on the north side of Lansing; now, officials are changing gears.
Homelessness has been a difficult hurdle to overcome, both for the city and its unhoused residents. There is another plan in the works to help people without a place to go, and it includes temporary housing pods.
“Our hopes are to develop a ModPod community, one that would consist of 50 ModPods that would sleep about 66 people,” said Kimberly Coleman, Director of the Lansing Department of Human Relations and Community Services.
