LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) — After the congressional rescission package was passed with sharp cuts to public media, 61% of Lincoln-based Vision Maker Media ’s budget is gone as of this October, according to President and CEO Francene Blythe-Lewis.

“It’s big heartbreak. It was, it really was. It was heartbreaking,” Blythe-Lewis told 10/11 Thursday afternoon. “My greatest fear is how do we preserve this organization of 49 years?”

The impact to the nonprofit, and the indigenous community across the nation, is something she’s working to cushion.

“Any story, as history in America evolves, should not exclude Native American perspectives,” Blythe-Lewis said. “And empowering native youth to learn and tell their stories through media has been reinvigorating the next generation.”
