The City of New Haven held its annual Puerto Rican flag raising ceremony ahead of this weekend’s festival.

The Puerto Rican Festival is put on by the organization Puerto Ricans United (PRU).

This year will be the organization’s ninth festival dedicated to promoting, preserving and celebrating Puerto Rican culture.

It will take place Saturday, Aug. 9 from 1 through 9 p.m. at the New Haven Green.

"We've got thousands and thousands of residents that come to the New Haven green, you all know it, you've all seen it, it's such a festival,” Mayor Justin Elicker said.
