PORTLAND, Ore. — Some Portland business owners say federal tariffs have directly forced them to raise prices at their stores, leading to lower sales.
On Thursday, many of the Trump administration's proposed global tariffs went into effect — taxes on imported goods typically from ranging from 10% to 50%.
In April, KGW talked with three Portland small business owners about their products and industries that could be affected by the proposed federal tariffs. Since then, the uncertainty over tariff impacts has become much more certain.
Dawn Seymour, owner of Fiber Rhythm, a yarn and craft store in Southeast Portland, said she sold as many knitting machines in the second quarter as she did all of 2024.
That was great news for such a big-ticket item until the bubble burst, Seymour said.
