BLOUNT COUNTY, Ala. —
A tire landfill facility is one step closer to becoming a reality.
The Blount County Commission met today and voted three to one in favor of approving the establishment of B&B Tire Landfill on Hazelrig Road in Cleveland.
Commissioner Allen Armstrong said the vote comes after public hearings were held about the new landfill.
Armstrong said the next step involves a judge to certify the process and then the Alabama Department of Environmental Management will give the final approval.
The business is expected to employ 30-45 workers and will be used to distribute some old tires for reuse after retreading, and the other tires will be buried underground, Armstrong said.
Work to build the site could begin in three to four months.
