SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- Two suspected smugglers are in custody after a high-speed boat pursuit Wednesday off the coast of San Diego.

Around 5:44 a.m., Coast Guard Cutter Sea Otter reported a high-speed personal watercraft crossing the maritime boundary line about 4.5 miles south of San Diego, the U.S. Coast Guard said in a news release Thursday.

A Coast Guard boat crew attempted to intercept the watercraft, but the two individuals tried to evade them by doing erratic and dangerous maneuvers, according to authorities.

One of the suspected smugglers suffered an arm injury during the pursuit when Coast Guard personnel deployed two rounds of LA-51, a non-lethal warning device.
