CAÑON CITY, Colo. (KKTV) - Police in Cañon City announced Thursday that a man was facing charges related to their investigation into an ATM “jackpotting” scheme.
“Jackpotting” is a type of cyberattack on ATMs that causes the machine to dispense large amounts of cash without an account.
According to the Cañon City Police Department (CCPD), an investigation began back in May 2025 when approximately $68,000 was stolen from a compromised ATM in the city.
Police said the case “rapidly expanded,” and soon many agencies from different jurisdictions and states were part of the investigation.
On Thursday, CCPD announced that an arrest warrant had been issued for Joel Alejandro Morantes-Leal, 25, in connection to their investigation. Authorities said that Morantes-Leal, who is a Venezuelan natio
