CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) -- The school year is almost here, and there have been numerous school supply drives in Central Illinois. This week, there was a different kind of drive.

The Salvation Army of Champaign County gave out hygiene products.

When students have access to these products, they can start the school year with their best foot forward.

"We want the kids, as they're going back to school, to have every bit of confidence possible," Champaign County Salvation Army's Corps Officer, Kenyon Sivels, said.

They saw a lot of community partners hosting school supply drives, but noticed something missing.

"We found a gap in terms of students going back to school having the necessary hygiene supplies they need to have a great and successful year," Sivels said.
