SCOTTSDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — A company shuttling special needs students in the East Valley suffered a major outage during the first week of school, resulting in the drivers being unable to access the drop-off routes.

Parents were informed that the implementation of an artificial intelligence upgrade caused the outage. That led some students to get home from school hours later than normal.

Many of the kids are non-verbal and couldn’t help the bus drivers.

Louise Turner says the start of the school year is always an exciting time for her son, “He’s kind of a celebrity. Everyone at school knows him.”

Turner said that the excitement is now gone because of major transportation issues this week.

“He’s very nervous about how he’s going to get home,” Turner said.
