BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — An investigation by the Baton Rouge Police Department into injuries sustained by an elderly woman with dementia at a nursing home led to one woman's arrest.

Lakeisha Martin, 48, of Baton Rouge, was charged with cruelty to the infirm.

The Baton Rouge Police Department responded to the Heritage Manor of Baton Rouge, 9301 Oxford Place Drive, just before 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 6.

They initiated an investigation into how the 78-year-old woman sustained an injury to her face.

BRPD was able to view a video that showed an employee entering and leaving the room where the elderly woman was staying.

Martin was left in the room with the 78-year-old woman and her roommate. Those three left the room around six minutes after the other employee had exited, and
