As the New Educators Symposium wraps up, the school year is about to begin for these new teachers. The Anchorage School District is welcoming about 170 new educators for the school year. Some are returning, and some are traveling 3,600 miles to their new school.

Richard Brown is one who traveled far, coming from Phoenix, Arizona. He moved to Alaska for family, but said there were also some enticing offers from ASD.

"Pay was a benefactor, and also I loved the scheduling, like starting at a decent time in the morning and getting out, you know, before 4:00," Brown said. "So I loved that."

Grace Hall is coming from Idaho. She’s been to Alaska before for internships and found it to be the place she wants to start her career. This is her first year teaching, but she’d eventually like to work
