The U.S. Coast Guard's new polar icebreaker, the Storis, has docked in its future home for the first time this week, where it will be officially commissioned in a ceremony on Sunday in downtown Juneau.

U.S. Senator Dan Sullivan exclaimed, "I'm really excited about it. This is something I've been working on through appropriations, through land swaps, and legislation, through this one Big Beautiful Bill that we just got passed. It's the biggest investment in Coast Guard history."

That investment is a staggering $26 billion in funding towards the Coast Guard. $300 million of which is allocated to build infrastructure in Juneau to be able to support and house the ship and its crew. This influx of funds also allows the Coast Guard to manufacture new ships to bolster the nation's fledgling ice
