Anchorage is moving forward with a new pilot project designed to support people experiencing homelessness who are ready to begin their recovery journey.

The city, in partnership with the Anchorage Community Development Authority (ACDA), is building 24 tiny homes near the Elmore Permit Center. The project is modeled after successful efforts like the "In Our Backyard" tiny homes led by Central Lutheran Church.

ACDA Executive Director Mike Robbins says the micro-units are meant for individuals seeking a structured path toward sobriety.

"It's going to give unhoused individuals an opportunity to move into a recovery program for those who would like to get off of drugs and alcohol," Robbins said.
