NEW TOWN, N.D. (KMOT) – Thirteen people are facing charges in connection with a drug overdose death on the Fort Berthold Reservation last month.
According to a news release from the MHA Division of Drug Enforcement, agents responded to a suspected drug overdose in New Town on July 24.
Investigators said it’s believed the 31-year-old victim died after ingesting a purple substance containing fentanyl.
The report from the drug enforcement division states agents interviewed witnesses and analyzed cell phone communications, which identified suspects “believed to be involved in the distribution of illegal narcotics that contributed to the fatal overdose.”
The agents conducted an operation Aug. 1 with other agencies across the reservation and surrounding communities and arrested 13 people.
