JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — A proposed ban on on-premises alcohol sales after 1 a.m. in Johnson City is one step closer to becoming reality, but city leaders have expressed a willingness to consider going with a later time.

After lengthy public comment, the Johnson City Commission unanimously approved the ordinance on second reading Thursday night, but will have to pass it again on third reading for final approval.

During the meeting, commissioners approved an amended version of the original proposal, which would have only applied to downtown. The amended proposal would apply to all zoning districts that permit on-premises beer sales.
