CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - A man was sentenced in Cedar Rapids for illegally returning to the United States after being deported twice.

In May 2025, 35-year-old Yoni Omar Alvarado-Gomes, a citizen of Honduras, pleaded guilty to one count of being found in the United States after illegally reentering.

Police say Alvarado-Gomes admitted to illegally returning to the United States without permission after being deported.

He was previously deported in 2009 and 2013, according to court documents.

In April 2025, he was arrested for driving without a license and speeding. Immigration officials found him at the Tama County Jail.

Alvarado-Gomes was sentenced to over three years in prison along with one year of supervised release.
