(KRON) -- More than $3,000 in hundreds of stolen items were recently recovered by the California Highway Patrol after a routine traffic car stop quickly turned into a chase, said officials.

When the pursuit came to a halt, the CHP Golden Gate Division said its officers discovered a haul of approximately 196 stolen goods in the suspect's vehicle. CHP said its Organized Retail Crime Task Force is investigating the retail theft.
