GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - Firefighters in Green Bay are offering free car seat installations and inspections for parents.

Lieutenant Shauna Walesh says here in northeast Wisconsin, about 8 or 9 out of 10 car seats are installed incorrectly, whether it be improper positioning, poor installation, or incorrect harnessing.

With crashes regarded as one of the leading causes of death in children, the department says it’s easy to get it wrong.

“Not every seat will fit in the car the same way as it would in the next car, and the next car, and so forth. So with having multiple manufacturers of different types, it can be really hard to get that seat in there,” says Lt. Walesh.

If you missed Thursday’s event, another will be held at Fire Station 9 next Monday, August 11.
