DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) - Getting your local news is simple for most, but for some, it’s not that easy.

A program run by volunteers in Duluth is bringing news to those with vision impairments.

Every day, volunteers come to the Lighthouse Center for Vital Living in Duluth to record audio tracks of local news.

“Our readers are sitting there looking at a computer, pulling up articles, and they read straight without any editing for up to 2 hours,” Volunteer Coordinator Michelle Juntunen said.

Juntunen started volunteering for the program in 2012 because her mother-in-law had Macular Degeneration, impacting her vision.

She said most volunteers are motivated to help volunteer because someone they know has vision impairments.
