MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WBOY) — Thursday was the 60th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, and in Morgantown, the Community Coalition for Social Justice held a special celebration to commemorate the landmark civil rights legislation.

The celebration included a historical performance by local artist Ilene Evans, who portrayed suffragette and voting rights activist Coralie Franklin Cook. The Community Coalition also put on an exhibit that explains the history of the Voting Rights Act and how they see voter suppression still being present today.
