LAHAINA (HawaiiNewsNow) - Keep Lahaina lands in Lahaina hands.
That is the motto for a community group working to help Maui families stay on the island and move back home.
“As horrific as the fire was, the next one, the one that they call post-disaster gentrification had the potential to be even worse because that’s the one that really threatens to destroy our communities and change our place forever,” said Lahaina Community Land Trust co-founder and Director of Operations.
Nearly two years after the fire disaster, LCLT is sharing success stories.
To date, LCLT has protected 13 properties through acquisition and helped 10 families rebuild.
