MURRAY – Construction is now complete on the project to replace Old Salem Road Bridge, but the new structure’s predecessor will remain in place for public use.
Judge-Executive Kenny Imes called the bridge Calloway County’s “most iconic” and “beloved” bridge, and he said the roadway reopened to traffic on Tuesday afternoon. While the new bridge and roadway will be the avenue for vehicle traffic, Imes and the rest of the Fiscal Court wanted to keep the old bridge, which has been commonly known as “Old Rattlin’ Bridge” for many years. The bridge construction, paving and concrete work are done, the guardrails are installed and the surrounding soil has been seeded for grass, so Imes said the only thing left is to install signs on both sides.
