TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) - Gov. Katie Hobbs made a stop at Pueblo High School in Southern Arizona as part of her Arizona Promise Tour.

She hosted a ceremonial signing of HB2484, the bipartisan “Classroom Cellphone Ban” bill. The bill prohibits the use of cell phones and wireless devices in classrooms with exemptions for emergencies and medical needs. It also mandates that schools establish clear procedures for students and parents to communicate during restricted device use.

"When phones become a distraction it makes it harder for our teachers to do what they do best, which is teach and inspire," Hobbs said. "At school teachers shouldn't have to compete with... use for learning."

Gov. Hobbs was surrounded by local leaders as she officially signed the bill into law.
