Public attention is focused on Pretoria, South Africa, where a court is expected to deliver its verdict today regarding the burial of former Zambian President Edgar Lungu.

The case arises from a dispute between Lungu’s family and the Zambian government. His family wants him to be buried in South Africa, while the government insists that, as Zambia’s sixth president, he should be laid to rest in his homeland.

The family argued in court that Lungu was severely mistreated under the current leadership in Zambia, which is why they believe he should be buried in South Africa.

Edgar Lungu passed away on 5 June 2025.
