South Africa’s High Court has ruled that the body of the late Edgar Lungu should be buried in his native Zambia.

The ruling was delivered by three judges at the High Court in Pretoria.

Lungu’s body had been kept in South Africa, where his family wished for him to be buried, but the Zambian government insisted that he be laid to rest in his homeland.

The former president died on 5 June 2025.
