KINGSTON — The Ulster County Legislature’s Housing and Transportation Committee Thursday approved nearly $200,000 in funding to help residents of manufactured homes move away from fossil fuel heating systems oil, kerosene and propane.

The funding includes a $194,000 contract with Ulster County Community Action Committee Inc., supported by the county’s Department of Environment, to supplement existing weatherization programs by allowing upgrades to interior heating equipment. The initiative is focused on increasing energy efficiency for vulnerable residents, particularly those living in manufactured homes.

Community Action is the federally recognized program that essentially does weatherization throughout the county, said County Planning Commissioner Dennis Doyle.
