KNOXVILLE, Tenn — Two schools in Knoxville partnered with a phone pouch company to enforce the new state law restricting students' access to their personal devices.
Yondr phone pouches are used in schools nationwide. It uses a patented magnet technology that locks students' phones up throughout the school day, something school leaders agree can be good for their students.
"We now know from a research standpoint the potential impact and drawbacks on constant access to screens and social media on kids," said Ansel Sanders, President of the Webb School of Knoxville.
Drawbacks include a distraction from education. One study from Seattle Children's Hospital surveyed teens and found they spend an average of 1.5 hours on smartphones at school, which is almost 25% of the average school day.
