PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Philadelphia police are conducting a homicide investigation after a body was found inside a house following a small kitchen fire.
The fire broke out around 6:30 a.m. on Friday in a third-floor apartment in a building on the 7300 block of Rockwell Avenue in Philadelphia's Fox Chase section.
Crews were able to quickly put out the fire, but then discovered a body in a rear bedroom.
"I saw smoke and all my neighbors outside, and I thought, 'What in the world is going on?' It's tragic," said neighbor Victoria Yarn.
Officials said there were no burn marks on the body.
"He had what appeared to be some cuts, lacerations to his arm, and also his and face and back. He appeared to have some trauma to his face and there was a lot of blood," Chief Inspector Scott Small with
