Tourists heading to certain hotspots in Majorca and Ibiza could face hefty fines if they're caught drinking alcohol in public, as local authorities take a stand against "excessive tourism". ‌

The Balearic Islands government has ramped up measures first introduced in 2020, banning the consumption of alcohol on streets and limiting sales during the night, while also clamping down on booze cruises. ‌

Those flouting the new rules risk fines of up to €3,000. ‌

Which areas are affected by the ban?

The clampdown is in effect at three resorts in Majorca - Llucmajor, Palma, and Calvia (including Magaluf) - as well as San Antonio in Ibiza.

The ban extends one nautical mile (1.85km) offshore from these destinations, with party boats forbidden from coming any closer or picking up
