WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- A woman is recovering in the hospital after she was shot in Southeast D.C. Thursday night, according to police.

According to the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), just minutes before 11 p.m. on Aug. 7, officers were called to the 5000 block of H St. after gunshots were heard in the area. While canvassing H Street, police did not find any victims.

Moments later, police were notified that a woman had arrived at the hospital with gunshot wounds.

MPD told DC News Now that when officers got to the hospital, the woman was conscious and breathing.

A lookout was issued for a male wearing a black jacket with a white tank top and black shorts with white shoes. Police noted that he was last seen running east on H Street toward 51st Street, with a black colored hand
