STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Surf Club was located at the corner of Ocean Avenue and Father Capodanno Boulevard in South Beach, Staten Island, 124 Ocean Ave. It was a popular place for locals to party and enjoy the summer days. The club opened in 1947 and closed in 2006.
As written by TimeOut on Friday, April 9, 2010: This 57-year-old, two-room tavern is thoroughly wallpapered with beer-distributor booty, but its location, across from the South Beach boardwalk, makes it a great place to tie one on. Surf is the friendly corner bar of bygone days. Families eat pizzas and burgers in the back; up front, second-generation owner Al “Butchie” Prato Jr. pours and calls cabs for patrons who have stepped (or stumbled) over the line.
Currently, the building is home to a restaurant named MyPizzaRUs.
