STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- The Democratic challenger vying to unseat Borough President Vito Fossella has joined the choir of concerned Staten Islanders speaking out against a proposed pipeline expansion off the coast of the borough.
Michael Colombo, the Democratic nominee for borough president in the upcoming November election , held a press conference on Friday to slam the proposed Northeast Supply Enhancement , a pipeline backed by President Donald Trump that supporters say would improve the supply of fracked natural gas to National Grid customers in Brooklyn, Queens and Long Island.
Despite the project only benefitting Brooklyn, Queens and Long Island, all National Grid customers, including those on Staten Island, will be asked to help pay for the project through a 3.5% bill increase.
