HURT — Sam Knaus, the pastor of First Southern Baptist Church, wasn’t preaching a sermon Wednesday afternoon.
But he still raised his voice to get his point across.
“Hey, you all come get something to eat when you’re done,” he yelled out as families entered John L. Hurt Jr. Elementary School for an open house. “We’ve got hot dogs and hamburgers.”
Knaus and volunteers from the church just down the road from the school were prepared to serve up 700 complete meals to anyone coming out on Wednesday afternoon.
The bags had either an all-beef hot dog or hamburger, chips, cookies and condiments. For the hot dogs, there was even a cup of chili in the bags.
The goal was to give families a meal ready to go, so they wouldn’t have to worry about fixing dinner after spending time visiting with tea
