Fifty goats were spotted munching away in a tucked-away stretch of brushland in Kitchener on Thursday — and no, they didn’t escape from a farm. These were professional goats, hard at work clearing overgrown vegetation between the fences and highway sound barriers near Boniface Avenue.

The herd was brought in to clear about 0.4 hectares of overgrown brush on a narrow, sloped strip of land sandwiched between people’s backyards and Highway 7/8. Prabhnoor Kaur

As the goats grazed through thick weeds and invasive plants, nearby homeowners couldn’t help but admire the unusual workforce. Some even brought out buckets of water to help the animals cool off.

The goats are part of a project run by a King City-based company called Goats in the City, founded by Ian Matthews, 58.
