Big Brothers Big Sisters of Waterloo Region is experiencing a mentor shortage.

The non-profit organization, located in Cambridge, currently has 70 kids and youth waiting to be paired with a mentor for its community-based programs.

About 80 per cent of those on the wait-list are males.

“Like many agencies, we are experiencing ongoing challenges with volunteer recruitment,” Julie Phillips, chief executive officer of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Waterloo Region, said in an email.

“Our region currently has a wait-list of youth waiting to be matched with mentors, and while we’re actively working to reduce it, limited volunteer numbers and funding constraints continue to be significant hurdles.”
