STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- The Staten Island FerryHawks bounced back from a tough loss in a big way Thursday night, riding Matthew Reitz’s longest start of the season and a barrage of home runs to a 7–3 win over the Atlantic League South division-leading Lexington Legends at SIUH Community Park.

Reitz, making just his second start of the year, was masterful. The right-hander worked 7.1 innings — the longest outing by any FerryHawks pitcher this season — scattering just a handful of hits while keeping Lexington’s powerful lineup quiet until the eighth inning.

Staten Island’s offense wasted no time supporting him. In the first, Matt Scheffler opened the scoring with an RBI single to bring home Eddy Diaz. One inning later, Pablo Sandoval extended the lead with a towering solo blast to left.
