(NewsNation) — A 17-year-old driver in Florida faces multiple felony charges for allegedly abandoning the scene of a deadly crash that killed another teen, NewsNation local affiliate WFLA reported.
The Florida Highway Patrol said the driver and four passengers — ranging from 13 to 17 years old — were involved in the fiery crash Monday.
The driver, a 17-year-old boy, allegedly sped up to overtake slower vehicles on the interstate, swerved off the road and hit a tree in Florida's Sumter County.
The car then caught fire. The driver got out of the vehicle, removed the license plate and fled the crash on foot, according to officials.
The passengers left in the vehicle were injured and taken to the hospital after the crash, where a 16-year-old later died. • A 17-year-old Florida driver fac
