LEWISTON, Maine (WMTW) - Lewiston Police Chief David St. Pierre announced Thursday he will retire , effective Sept. 9.
A Lewiston native, St. Pierre has been a part of the Lewiston Police Department for 33 years, including the last four as chief.
“Serving this city - my hometown - has been one of the greatest honors of my life,” said St. Pierre. “My 33-year career with the Lewiston Police Department has been nothing short of fantastic, so very rewarding and challenging at the same time. I truly appreciate each and every one of my colleagues and will miss you all deeply. It has been a pleasure being your Chief.”
Lewiston is Maine’s second-largest city, behind Portland.
St. Pierre led the department through the response to and handling of the 2023 Lewiston mass shooting.
