A swift response and collaboration between law enforcement, wildlife officials, and good Samaritans gave a green sea turtle a second chance at life.
What began as a day on the water turned into a dramatic rescue as a severely injured green sea turtle was saved through the collaborative efforts of the Martin County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), and a private boater with three good Samaritans on board.
The distressed turtle was first spotted by the private boater, deputies say.
Two of the passengers, who happened to be marine biology college students, immediately sprang into action. They jumped into the water with masks and fins to help guide the turtle onto the boat, ensuring its safe removal from the water.
