GRAND RAPIDS, MI — A staple of the Cherry Street restaurant scene is shutting down after nearly two decades in business.

Essence Restaurant Group said Friday, Aug. 8, it will permanently close the Green Well restaurant at 924 Cherry St. SE in Grand Rapids. The last day of business will be Saturday, Aug. 16.

The decision is part of a broader restructuring within The Green Well’s parent company, Essence Restaurant Group, which includes rebranding to Essence Hospitality Group effective Aug. 16, the company said in a release.

The company also plans to focus on growing its three core restaurants Bistro Bella Vita, Grove and Lucy’s Café.
