Lack of volunteers forces cancelation of UWA Holiday Bazaar after 54 years

After 54 years, the University Women’s Association will no longer host its annual Holiday Bazaar, due to a lack of volunteers and aging membership.

This is an event which resulted in more than $300,000 in scholarships for students during those 54 years. About 100 vendors signed up every year.

“Ending the UWA Holiday Bazaar was a very difficult decision and one that was sad for us,” the group said in a news release. “After presenting this event for 54 years, we found it was no longer sustainable for our membership. It takes 80 volunteers and a 20-person bazaar team working over six months each year to put on the bazaar to our standards.”

“Diminishing resources and volunteers, and the fact that many of the core team are in their 70s and 80s finally forced us to face the fact that we could
